View Article  FInishing up a UFO!

Hey, I've actually been finishing up a U.F.O. this weekend! Our lovely nephew, Caleb was modelling it for us. Amber, it's the sweater for Dev! I'll post pics soon!

I need a wonderful pattern for a kerchief for one of my co-workers. I've decided to crochet one for her out of that hemp-cotton blend I bought! It would hold her lovely long dreadlocks away from her face beautifully! If you see any great patterns, reply to this message with the links! Thanks!

I've updated my scrapping links :) Check out the scrapbooking area. Eventually, I'll take some shots of some of the stuff I've been working on and upload them.
View Article  Letters to Esther

I love things like this. Letters to Esther is a collection of letters written to Esther Munro of Geneva, Indiana spanning from 1900-1960. It is so interesting and fun to read! I've often wanted to put together something like this. Actually, I may even have some letters from a dear soul who adopted me as her "granddaughter" a few years ago. She has since passed on and I miss her. I think putting together a book of "Letters from Gramma" would be fun and a nice way to remember her. I could do it scrapbook style. I love this idea. :)

View Article  Water in the City (and Cross Stitch too)

The City came and said they'd need to dig up our yard twice more. Now take an additional third of what we've already paid to get our water situation sorted out and add that to the total. Oh yes, more money. The upside of this however, is that when we do finally reach the top of the 12-20 month waiting list, we will be reimbursed this additional amount in full. Yay. Still, it has to be paid out now. Bleh. Another bright side to this is that by paying now, we get water now. By sitting on the waiting list, we wouldn't have water for a year a two! Better to pay now and get reimbursed later.

Last night I received a call from my Grandma's friend. Her daughter recently passed away and I am to inherit her cross stitch supplies. Grandma's friend is keeping the knitting stash and I get the cross stitch stash. I'm excited to see what is in there. I believe there are some WIP's that she had on the go. I think one was for her grandson. If that is in the stash, I will finish it for the family. I've done that once before. The recipient loves receiving something from their loved one. If I died and had some WIP's that were special, I'd love for someone to finish them and pass them on to the intended recipient. I'd rest better knowing that I didn't leave any unfinished things behind :) Yes Amber, I am in a sharing mood :) I should have some of the stash next weekend and I'll bring it out with me ;) (Mana's coming to visit!)

View Article  Water before blogging

It's been an adventure-filled week around Casa Disco. We had our front  yard and basement dug up, lead pipe removed and replaced...actually all of our pipes replaced and we were without a working toilet from Thursday until yesterday morning! Both toilets are now working. Hallelujah and praise the Lord for flushable toilets!

The City was here this morning. I'm not sure what exactly they were here to do, but they did sit out front for an hour or so. It's a start, I guess. Someone from the City was supposed to come and test our water pressure. I'm not sure if that happened or not, but I guess I'll find out when Ross gets home :) They are supposed to dig up our yard again and probably a portion of our street in front of our house. There are yellow lines painted in front of our house. Because of the snow, a crew came out to re-paint the lines so they would be visible to the digging crew I suppose.

I'm not feeling up to par this week. You know I'm not feeling well when I'm not knitting much. When I do feel ok, I'm scrubbing my basement and trying to get things back into their places. We'll also be laying down temporary tiles in the basement to cover our new "bald spots".

RED ALERT FOR S.E.X.: Here is some knitting news: There is a new knitting store that has opened up in the Beaches area. The Naked Sheep. They even have a Knitter's Registry! Fabulous idea! I definitely want to go and check them out!

For Kim's hat, this is the stuff I was talking about! It's Bernat Boa and I have Cardinal. It shouldn't take me long to make a hat. :) I'll mail it out. Maybe I'll try to make Rob a Buddha too.

View Article  No Water

We have no water. A company is here to dig up our front yard. The men are amazing. They wear little booties in the house to protect my sparkling clean floors ( heavy on the sarcasm) and the have laid down drop sheets all the way down the basement stairs to the closet where the water access is. I hear drilling! They are also drilling a hole through the basement floor! Most exciting. I was thinking of hiding up in my room cross stitching! How fun!

Amber loves her scarf and her crocheted goddess. Now she thinks Rob would love a crocheted buddha!

View Article  HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

My darling husband bought me potted tulips (a biggish pot), a large bouquet with roses, pink lilies, and bright pink gerberas. (Speaking of which, check out Gerbera Designs, you won't be disappointed. At all. In fact, I may lose you for a few hours.) He also bought me a heart-shaped box of Turtles!! Oh I love those little guys. MMMmmm Mmmm MMmm! Tonight we've having a nice dinner. He's such a nice boy....

So now that it's Valentine's Day, I will change the links at the bottom from Valentine's Day patterns to Easter Patterns for all of your holiday pleasures!

Have you seen these commemorative knit kits from the American Red Cross? Today, in my massive vintage pattern collection, I found the Canadian Red Cross knitting pattern booklet, published in 1940. How exciting is that?

View Article  The next Stitch N Bitch
Surfing around to Knitomatic's blog I found out that Debbie Stoller is working on her next Stitch N Bitch! This time in Crochet!! She's looking for submissions. Jamma, you're going to send in something, right?? Shall I photograph the wrap you made for me?? It gives me a ton of ideas!
View Article  "TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!"
We all go through the stage where our parents are screaming at us to turn that "crap" off! Today, we were listening to Def Leppard's "Photograph". Apparently, Ross's dad thought it the worst noise imagineable! I wonder if he loves what the boys listened to?? I'm betting that if we invite him over and give him a choice between Eminem and Def Leppard's "Photograph", he'd think Def Leppard was the good ole Oldies easy-listening type music!

View Article  Trip to the LYS

Yes! I went to an actual LYS and not Walmart! I bought 1 skein of Estelle Yarn's Little Mama #1980. This is for a scarf for my boss. She asked me to make her something "cheap and furry". This yarn is just a little "furry", but I think the colours are right up her alley. I'm using 10mm needles right now, but I think I need to get some 15mm. I think I won't get a whole scarf out of it if I only use the 10's. The wood needles are nice with this yarn, though!

I also picked up the new knit.1 mag. I'm itching to make the sweater on the front! I love it! I love the Urban Cowgirls stuff. I want to make the vest! In the Glamazons section I absolutely adore that skirt! Check it out, Jamma. It has a lovely eyelet pattern throughout it. And Sabor Tropical has lots of goodies too. (Jamma, you'll love the ballet sweater!)

I bought Jean Greenhowe's Bazaar Knits. I just love all of her little stuffed toys.

Check out your Knitstrology. There are really cute knitted robot keychains in this one. Ross thinks they're cute too.

Today we went to Home Depot and we've picked out our flooring for our main floor (minus the kitchen). It's a lovely oak hardwood floor that matches pretty well with all the oak trim in this house. I've also picked out the paint for the living room and dining room! We picked out tiles for our front entrance (this will be at the door instead of an area rug so the hardwood doesn't get ruined.) We agreed on tiles for the kitchen floor and picked out stones for a patio we plan to build in the front yard! What a productive day! Not sure when we'll actually begin the downstairs, but it's exciting knowing what we want. :) Yay!

And speaking of knitted toys, and knitted foods, I found a pattern for a knitted doughnut and knitted little cakes (pincushions) in the Jean Greenhowe's Bazaar Knits. She also has knitted Licorice All Sorts. Maybe not as tasty as the real ones, but they look tasty.

Go buy your knit.1 mag. It's fun and funky. It even has a letter of complaint from a reader published in it. She's a self-proclaimed yarn snob who complained that there is too much focus on Lion Brand yarns. Since I am a "process knitter" (my thrill is in the process, not the yarn), I am happy they use yarn I can purchase at Walmart! Yay! When I win the lottery, I'll go buy some fancy-schmancy $36 a skein of yarn! (I'd rather have my house than knit with something I can't afford!). Here ends my rant!

View Article  Knitting for Dad?

Ok, my dad's 55th is happening on March 12. I was thinking of knitting him a tie. Although, a tie might be more appropriate for Father's Day! I thought of doing the Interweave Knits staff project ties, but I'd have to go on a hunt for the right yarns. Call me lazy, but that sounds like a lot of work! Here are some more knitted tie patterns if you're interested in making one for the favourite man in your life!

View Article  Knit and Crochet in Braille (recipes too)
Do you know someone who is blind and who would love to knit or crochet? Perhaps someone who used to see, but has lost their vision? Marjorie bought a braille embosser and realized that the blind might appreciate some braille pattern books! Funny, I have been thinking about exactly this for a long time! Even putting the patterns on tape or something. Genius!
