This is our lovely Buddha-O-Lantern that Amy and I created with one of our lovely volunteers. I crocheted his lovely hat. I designed it after some pictures Amy showed me of a Thai Buddha. So cute! More Hallowe'en pics to follow..... (I'll also post a Buddha hat pattern, or rather what I can remember of it!)

Total Lunar Eclipse: October 27-28, 2004 Sadly, it's too overcast to see any ecliptical action out there tonight. (I just went out and stood in my backyard in my pajamas, socks with garden shoes and my coat. No eclipse. Maybe some strange looks, though.
View Article  Elegant Prose

Yesterday while on my way to work, I noticed a beautifully captured and so eloquently articulated bit of prose painted on the side of the subway station.

It made me smile, made my heart soar, made me feel at peace and made me feel I'm one with the universe.

It read: ANUS

No matter how old you are, a simple word like anus in big, huge block letters still makes you laugh! (This might speak somewhat to my maturity level!)

a darning needle holder

Care Bears pattern book (I'm going to make one for Amber)

a Toronto cross stitch pattern (Mom asked me to make it for her)

some fabric

some gifts

a green Knifty Knitter

Unfortunately I can't stay home and craft all day because I have to go to work!

Not even Superman could save Christopher Reeve who died of a heart attack, yesterday, October 10, 2004.  News about his death are on Reuters and E! Online News. Check out Superman Central (cool graphics).

I remember the day of his tragic accident which broke his neck and left him hanging by a thread to his life (May 1995). My mom and I were trying to call each other. We both cried when we heard the news. How devastating for someone so seemingly full of life and so strong. I guess even super heroes die some day.

Growing up, my mom and I would close ourselves up in our living room with popcorn and orange or lime Crush and watch movies. The Superman movies were watched in just this fashion. We loved those movies.

In honour of our passing hero (both on screen and in real life) here is

Superman's Song by the Crash Test Dummies

Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing

[Chorus:]
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going

Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, You Jane."

Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back
On man, join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city, and kept on changing clothes
In dirty old phonebooths till his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home

Christopher Reeve (1952-2004)

Quote: "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

Nous sommes à la maison.(We are home.) Je suis très fatigué. (I am very tired.) Je dois aller au lit ! (I must go to bed!)

Ross and I took a cab from Ste. Marthe de Rigaud and stayed at the Hilton Aeroport in Dorval. This was close to both the airport (he was flying home) and the VIA Rail station (I was taking the train home). We decided to go out for dinner while back in Montreal. We went to Le Cage aux Sports only to find everyone speaks English in there (patrons included) and it was reminiscent of a sports bar in Etobicoke. Went into Chapters in the same plaza and all the magazines were in English and all the books at the front of the store were in English and even the patrons were speaking English. Huh. Où sont les francophones ? (Where are the francophones?) Très étrange. (Very strange.)

We are thrilled to be home! The weather was so lovely we went and got steaks and beers for dinner and sat in our back yard. What a treat after travelling around so much this week and eating food that was much too rich for my poor wee bel-lah!

Bonne nuit!

Ok, Ross isn't a wizard, but I am off to see him today. I'm leaving here from the hotel to meet up with him in Rigaud at Auberge des Gallant. Very exciting.
View Article  Bienvenue a Montreal!
I am at the Delta Centreville in Montreal. Last night we walked around Old Montreal and I bought myself a lovely necklace. I bought a gift for my lovely housesitter too ;) A lovely dinner of crepes stuffed with brie, apples and Quebec maple syrup. And um, a bottle of Merlot ;)

The presentation went smashingly well. There were not as many participants as we would have liked, but still, some came just to see our presentation and that made us feel tres importante!

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet (tuf*fet n. 1. A clump or tuft of grass. 2. A low seat, such as a stool.)
Eating her curds (curd n. 1. The part of milk that coagulates when the milk sours or is treated with enzymes. Curd is used to make cheese. 2. A coagulated liquid that resembles milk curd.) (um, ewwwww!) and whey (whey n. The serum, or watery part, of milk, separated from the more thick or coagulable part, esp. in the process of making cheese.Note: In this process, the thick part is called curd, and the thin part whey.) (K, I don't want what she's having. I'm lactose intolerant!)
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
And scared Miss Muffet away!

(the curds and whey would likely scare me off)

I was thinking of little miss muffet (my parents called me that when I was a baby) yesterday. We had an employee recognition bbq at work. I got a henna tattoo on my wrist of a black widow! I'm very cool now. I had a caricature done too. We had bbq'd chicken, burgers, salads, spinach and feta dip, veggies, grilled veggies and tons of sweets for dessert. They gave us fleece wraps and a video about the hospital's vision and mission. Basically, we're going to change the world. No problem! We even did the macarena! lol
