Today we had an OT Christmas party at Fionn MacCool's downtown on the Esplanade. Lovely little Irish pub. I won a prize. (I had to do the chicken dance in front of my bosses and co-workers to get it, however). After the party, I was to meet Ross after work. We went to the U of T for a premier screening of a documentary. I'll get there, but let's do the adventure part first.
I left the pub and walked to King, where I was going to catch the 504 King car to Ross's office. Quick trip. Maybe 10-15 minutes. Construction ..... I wound up walking from Church to John. When I got to John, the streetcar stop had a sign that said I had to catch the car on Queen. So I walked along John to Queen. Hi City TV. I get on the streetcar and tell the dude I need to get off at Dufferin. He says "uh, folks, we are having another detour. There has been an accident involving a pedestrian and we are being re-routed along Bathurst to Dundas and then down Dundas to Dundas West Stn." Uh, ok. He tells me he'll let me off at Dufferin.
Having been at the pub from 3 til 5:15, I'd had 2 Keith's already. My bladder wouldn't get me all the way to Ross's office. I got off at Euclid because I was familiar with the area and knew that I could figure my way from there. I walked a couple of blocks after my pitstop and got on another streetcar. He tells me he can let me off at Dufferin and College. Fine. No prob. Two blocks into our trek, we barely missing hitting a pedestrian. In horror, I watched as he was hit by the car next to us. It happened so fast, there was no way to warn him. He was thrown into the air, bounced off the hood and landed on the ground. He jumped up nearly right away and was talking to the guy that hit him. The TTC driver wasn't going to stop to see if they needed assistance. He said to me "I didn't hit him. I'm not stopping." I told him to stop the car and let me out. I don't care what the hell is going on. Another human being was just hit by a car and may need some help. He was apologizing for not paying attention, the driver was asking him if he could take him to the hospital, he was saying he was fine....The driver got our phone numbers, but the pedestrian and I - I think we were both in shock and didn't get his info. My concern was the pedestrian ( we'll call him Lee). I stayed with him for a while and we kept talking. I wanted to call 911, but he said he didn't want me to and it was his fault... He told me that his friend was in the flower shop next to us buying flowers! And he never saw a thing. Of course I walked right in there and said, "Um, your friend Lee has been hit by a car... pretty hard... I think he needs to go the hospital. I'd feel much better if you took him there." At first he didn't believe us. Because Lee was standing behind me and I'm sure he looked fine. I gave them my name and number and they gave me some flowers. I thought that was very sweet.
After that, I realized I didn't really know where I was exactly. Somehow, I was on Dundas. I started walking and called Ross and got myself oriented. I started walking to the office. It had gotten very cold since I first left the pub. The construction along King is crazy and I walked up to Atlantic I guess (through the underpass). I left the pub at 5:15. I should have been with Ross by 5:45 at the latest. I didn't get to him until 7:00 or so. I was singing "I walked all ni-i-i-i-i-ght to get to you....."
The premier was awesome and I'll blog it tomorrow. Lee, you're in my thoughts and I hope you darned well went to the hospital like I told you to. Of course I told him to go to a good physio, too. What shocked me most this evening is that I was the only one on the streetcar who needed to help. No one else stopped to see if Lee was ok. TTC drivers are supposed to stop and help everyone. I wish I had that driver's name. I'll write a little note anyway. If you take anything away with you from this, let it be to help your fellow man in need. Please.

Yep. That's right. The Northern Pikes were on Canada AM this morning. Shamus was shocked to hear they are celebrating 20 years. I suppose that makes Shamus feel older. The Northern Pikes were promoting their new album, It's a Good Life, which was due out on Dec. 2. This Friday, the Pikes will be at the Horseshoe Tavern and you can catch 'em on Saturday in Barrie. Um, Allyson, this post is for you!
