Good Buy Yarns Open House

Friday Nov 26 and Saturday Nov 27

I'm going to that!

Knitting Guru

You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin. http://marniemaclean.com

What Kind of Knitter Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

For anyone who has invited me over or out anywhere, you know I have yarn and needles and 1-3 projects on-the-go with me. :) Yesterday I left the house with 4 and returned with yarn for a new project! lol

This magazine is about 6 x 8" (approx). It's hip, it's now, it's stuff that the young ladies are into. Lots of furry stuff. Flowers are the big thing these days and there are knitted flowers that are so simple, yet I'd never have thought of it myself. Really creative, innovative and kitschy.

There is definitely something for everyone in this magazine. Big bulky knit sweaters, fingerless gloves, a neck gaiter, scarves, capelets, legwarmers and even a knitted clock! There are some crocheted items too!

What I love most about this magazine, besides the "fun" it brings to knitting is the cool products they show. Like find funky products from Purl (be sure to check out their article "KNITTING IS THE NEW YOGA: Move Over Grandma, Knitting is the New Rock 'n Roll") (I want their "Knitters Have Balls" tank).

Another featured product is "Feet First". The American Red Cross has created a knitting kit to commemorate the original Serviceman's Socks. Check it out at Red Cross.

The BagSmith will really have you in knots. woolybully will leave you screaming for more!

the wool shack has beaded row-counter bracelets!

This magazine is packed with stuff like this. I actually love reading the articles too. Normally, I skip all the articles and just look at the juicy photos and get right into the patterns. This magazine is a must read from cover-to-cover. My favourite is "Why Knitting is Sexy" by Ian Kerner, Ph.D. who is a sex therapist and author. It's a must read.

Cost: $7.99 CDN

A subscription of this is going on my wish-list for Christmas!

My step-mom Marian works for Aisling Discoveries. They work with many shelters and donated hand-knit or crocheted items will be distributed to the needy. Little baby hats and baby mitts and hats, scarves and mitts for children 12 and under. Don't forget their mommies :) Any donations of gently used items - toys, strollers, high chairs, baby seats, swings, etc are appreciated!

Some other charity organizations to donate items to:

Covenant House

Out of the Cold (our hospital does "Out of the Cold Sock Gifts")

CHUMCity Christmas Wish (drop off locations)

Cubs for Kids

Happy crafting :)

Ok, I'm an addict. What does a yarn addict do? She searches online for a yarn shop in the city which she will be visiting this weekend. I found the Knitting Nimrod and I hope to be able to check it out! What do you know? This place is just across the street! How convenient!

Well, 4 of the 8 strips are sewn. 3 are completely together with the 4th 2/8 of the way attached. Now it looks like an afghan. I'll see if I can get my sister to take some photos for me so I can post them. (Ross has the camera of course!)

Well, I've completed 2 entire strips (strip=8 squares) and have joined the two. I'm on strip # 3 and have sewn 5 squares together on that one. By tonight I'd like to have 4 strips completed and sewn together. Or more !!!

Squares. The final frontier. These are the pieces of the Broken Star afghan. It's a continuing mission to knit, to sew, to boldly finish an afghan in time for Christmas.

Ok, so I've finished the squares. I'm sewing them together. I have 3 squares left on the first strip. (Strip 1 of 8) I'd like to finish it soon so that I can begin on other projects!

View Article  Knitty's Surprise

Knitty has a surprise pattern in their Fall 2004 issue. Click here and select a site to download from. (They're spreading the bandwidth.) This surprise is to support breast cancer awareness. Might be nice to knit a bunch of the first pattern and sell them. Give the proceeds to breast cancer research. :)

Scarves, hats, socks and a story from a breast cancer survivor which I found to be very moving. Save the breasts! But more importantly, save lives.
