Hop on the bus, Gus

Bus scarf sm

Of course it’s Bernat Super Saver Yarn in Bright Yellow just perfect for a school bus! I made this scarf for my aunt who is a school bus driver. I even embroidered the bird on the front!

So what do think about that? I’m thinking about submitting my pattern to Crochet World for publication at the suggestion of a designer on Crochetville. (It’s my favourite haunt.) Another designer gave me some great ideas for more designs! I’m all inspired!

The pattern is available at the bottom of this post listed as "1 Attachment". Please only use it for your personal use and do not sell the pattern as your own. I'd love to see lots of photos of the scarf you make up. Please feel free to send me photos at mandalanda2000ATyahooDOTca.

View Article  My Recipe for a Ruffly Boa

For mine, I used vintage pink fuzzy yarn – Eaton’s Melissa and a J Hook

Ch 200

Follow Caron’s Ruffle Scarf pattern rows 1–5. I made some changes. At the beginning of the rows, I used the turning chains as the first dc of the row. Instead of chaining 2, ch 4, dc in same st, then do row instructions.

At the end of the 5th row, ch 1 DO NOT turn.

Sc along row ends, then sc in each remaining loop of base ch row – complete by sc’ing along row ends on opposite end.

Fasten off.

This makes for a super-long, super wrappy dappy ruffly scarf! You can either wear it long or double-wrap it around  your neck for mega ruffle-age.

Ok, Melissa Mall’s Pieces of My Heart from CrochetMe got me thinking – I could make a Star Pillow using the same techniques:Star

crochet a pentagon x2

crochet 5 triangles x2

sew 5 triangles onto pentagon x2

crochet sides

How it will all look when it’s done?? I have no idea. But won’t it be fun trying? I definitely need stars for my celestial-themed bedroom!

View Article  OV Titans Scarf

My brother plays for the OV (Ottawa Valley) Titans. I decided to make him a scarf in his team colours :) Ain't I clever?

Craig's 2x2 rib

Worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver. (M)Maroon, (G)grey, (W)white, small amount of (B)black. 4.5 mm needles.

With G, cast on 40 sts.

k 20 rows.

Switch to B, k4 rows.

Switch to W, k another 20 rows.

Now switch to M and continue until scarf reaches desired length. I used one entire skein of Red Heart Super Saver yarn.

Repeat beginning 44 rows, reversing the colour order.

Note: I'm actually going to add the number 11 to one end of the scarf using some charts I downloaded today. I'll let you know how that works out. (I'll also upload a photo!)

Note: Knitting scarves in team colours is the "in thing" right now. All the knitting and crochet mags have their own versions. Could be an easy Christmas present! (or birthday)

This is our lovely Buddha-O-Lantern that Amy and I created with one of our lovely volunteers. I crocheted his lovely hat. I designed it after some pictures Amy showed me of a Thai Buddha. So cute! More Hallowe'en pics to follow..... (I'll also post a Buddha hat pattern, or rather what I can remember of it!)

I like knitted scarves with the 2 x 2 ribbing - the long, long ones. Knitting takes a long time, though and knitting on the subway during rush hour is not a good idea! "If you're happy and you know it, impale your neighbour...if you're happy and you know it and you really want to show it, if you're happy and you know it - stick a needle in his eye!" After having crocheted so many items over the past couple of months and discovering new ways of putting stitches together, I came up with an "imitation" knit scarf!

Yarn I used: Bernat Soft Boucle 140g ball (1 ball should do it). I used a variegated (dark blue, hunter green, burgundy). Very manly!
Hook I used: 5 mm It's actually a J hook or 6 mm!

Chain about 150. When I got to 125 I decided I wanted it longer so it would wrap around the neck.
Row 1: SC in 2nd chain from hook through the back loop only and SC in each chain across all through back loops. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 2: SC through the back loops of each SC. Chain 1. Turn.
Repeat row 2 until scarf is the width you'd like. My guess is 25. I'll let you know when I get there. :)

And I'll upload a picture soon!
The single crocheting through the back loops gives you a simulated 2 x 2 ribbing. Fast and easy! A little monotonous at times, but the outcome is worth it. Small note, the Soft Boucle is a little difficult on the first row. Be patient and be careful to get in each chain across. Or else you'll end up with this big arc and not a scarf.
If you've invented your own creation and would like to share it, we can post them in here. Just drop me a line.
