SCARF und MITTENS

Steph asked me to knit her a scarf and mittens for her to take with her on her trip to Germany. The yarn she bought is German: Boogie by Schoeller + Stahl. (scroll down til you see Boogie). It's a lovely blend of man-made fibers and cotton in green. There is a fine thread of mustard and different shades of green. It's more on the olive-side of green. I love it. Furry, fuzzy and downy soft. I'm using 6 mm needles as this is a bulkier knit. 22 stitches across and Steph wants it nice and long so she can wrap it around a few times! I'm going to want one for me now. (Oh yeah, did I mention the yarn was $12.99/ball at Romni? ) Ross nearly had a heart attack at first, because he thought I bought the yarn! lol

BABY SWEATER WITH A HOOD

This is still the same baby sweater that I've been working on for a while in Bernat DenimStyle, Stonewash. I'm finished the back, the front L and R and both sleeves. Now I need to pick up and knit for the hood and sew the whole mess together. The dreaded part: finishing. Amber's friend Jo will love it for baby Devon.

I also bought The Cross Stitcher Magazine today!!! I want to make the Red Hat lady on the cover. Read the "Warning" by Jenny Joseph. My mom loves that poem. And so do I. I shall also wear purple! I'll even wear a red hat and red shoes! lol

View Article  Sleepover at Dad's

Patricia decided to surprise Grandma and come down for a visit with Dawn and their puppy, Tequila. Saturday night after my scrap bash, dad picked me up and I stayed overnight. With Dawn tucked in with Granny and Pops and GG (great grandma) off to bed, Tina, Patricia and I decided to order pizza at 2 am.

Patricia's baby is the sweetest in the world. Dawn has the loveliest disposition. She loves the 'Tequila' song. When Patricia starts "da da da..." Dawn instantly starts bopping and dancing! I love it.

We have figured out the invites. Marian, Tina, Patricia and I all painted birdhouses on Sunday. We later sanded them to give them an aged effect. This was Tina's idea and they turned out fantastically!

Patricia went to Michael's with Gram and bought bags of chocolate wafers in various different colours, a chocolate lollipop mould and sticks. She melted the chocolate, painting some areas one colour with a paint brush, then another colour, then filled in the mould. Those went into the freezer for a quick set and presto! Instant homemade chocolates. Guess what everyone can expect to get for Christmas?? lol

Ok, like oh my God I had so much fun. I thought it would be a little weird because  I went on my own and didn't know anyone there. Luckily for me, a spot was found for me at a table with some really awesome ladies! Our class in the afternoon was the best. We made little books! I'll have to get the camera and take some photos of the stuff we did! So fun! We got lots of free stuff too. Which is always fun!

I learned new techniques! Some we did, and some people just told me about or showed me:

For aging your paper and making it look "heritage"

Walnut ink

Chalking for paper aging

And here's an article "Rough it Up"

The sandpaper technique is fun. You sand your photos, pages and papers - fun. Crumpling, now that was fun. Rip, tear, shred, cut, hammer, punch, sand..... I love scrapbooking.

These scrap bashes are every six months. The next one is in November. ;)

Um, I'm not sure why, but I defiitely want some. How about a celestial glow in the dark afghan for the bedroom? At least I'd be able to see where the blankets ended up when I'm shivering in the middle of the night!

For my birthday, my lovely papa and step-mom bought me a gift certificate from Family Preserves in Whitby. The idea was for me to attend the Scrap Bash 2004 happening this Saturday. It's from 9am-9pm. I'm definitely signed up and going.

I will blog all about it. I suppose I should be taking a camera. The old fuddy-duddy kind with 35 mm film it will have to be since Ross has the (His) digital camera with him. lol

I can't believe I have to pack everything and take it with me out to work tomorrow! EEK!

wiseNeedle.com has some lovely original knit patterns. Socks, hats, mitts, scarves, lace and I love the Kids "Chain Mail" Coif and Hauberk.

These lovely patterns are translated for modern knitting. This earwarmer pattern for example, was originally published in 1546. Can you imagine?

An excerpt from wiseNeedle.com's website:

"Although the knotwork in this panel design makes it look vaguely Celtic, in fact this particular one first appeared in Venice. The book's title begins "Opera Noua composta per dominco da Sera detto il Francoisino," and was issued by the printing workshop of Matteo Pagan and Guliemo da Fontaneto in 1546. "

Isn't that lovely?
